Well, Amazfit smartwatches always turn a lot of attention because of its attractive features and aggressive pricing. Their latest device Amazfit Bip2 went on sale in August 2019 actually. However, Amazfit Bip2 happens to be more of a health monitoring device suitable for elders actually. But unfortunately, the Bip2 is not available online, and let’s focus on Bip vs Bip Lite models. In this article, we are going to talk about Amazfit Bip vs Bip Lite – Which One is Best. Let’s begin!
Amazfit Bip and Bip Lite are much more features packed and also are more inclined towards youngsters. Are you guys planning to buy one of them and is stuck along with selecting Amazfit Bip or Lite? Let’s now compare them and find out which one is suitable for you.
Well, Xiaomi’s bestseller budget fitness tracker Amazfit Bip has a “lite” version now – Amazfit Bip Lite (not to be confused with the Bip 2 actually). However, both of the watches have the same display and software, well the Bip Lite has undergone some serious hardware changes. It is really easy to be confusing and also end up buying the cheaper Bip Lite which is not really worth the money. So, let’s have a look at the key differences between the Amazfit Bip and Amazfit Bip Lite that you should know before buying any of them.
The Common Features: Bip vs Bip Lite
Both Bip and Bip Lite are amazing values for its price actually. But let’s select the better one. First, let’s see the features that are common in the two devices. Both of the devices are claimed to have 45 days of battery life from a single charge and also have a 1.28-inch transflective display along with gorilla glass protection. PPG sensor, Sleep tracking, and sport modes with multiple sports activities such as cycling, treadmill, walking, and running can be tracked as well.
Both of the devices have a reflective always-on display along with AF (Anti-Fingerprint) coating. There is no change in display resolution, both watches, Bip and Bip Lite basically carry a 1.28″ 176x176PX display.
Along with a polycarbonate body, both Bip and Bip Lite are light (32g), sturdy, and are very comfortable to wear. It takes about 2.5 hours in order to get the devices charged completely. Notifications from calls, messages, or any other apps in the smartphone connected can be seen through both the devices. Vibration alarms are also present in Amazfit Bip and Bip Lite as well. The bands in both of the watch models are in the same size, 20mm standard.
Amazfit Bip vs Bip Lite – Which One is Best
Bip Lite has lesser sensors
The Bip Lite is actually a scaled-down version of the Bip and obviously, it also has fewer sensors. For starters, it has the same 3-axis accelerometer and the PPG heart sensor as well. So in real-life usage, step counting and heart rate measurement are similar to both the bands actually.
However, the Bip Lite loses on the most important inbuilt GPS that was the unique selling point of the original Bip. Well, I am into outdoor and trail running and the biggest downside is that the Bip Lite cannot track your route without even the phone. And in that case, it gets really highly inaccurate with the distance actually. This means that the activity tracking of the Bip Lite is entirely dependent on your smartphone’s GPS as well.
Lastly, the Bip Lite also loses on the compass and barometer actually. I have not used these options a lot however, if you guys are into hiking or uphill running, it might be a bummer for you guys.
Bip Lite lacks custom watch faces
Well, another thing that impressed me about the Bip was actually the huge third-party watch face support. You guys had the option to either create your own watch face or download a custom watch face from the Internet actually. I had been knocking a pebble watch face on my Amazfit Bip for actually the past 6 months. And then it added a good flavor in order to the watch experience. Unfortunately, the Mi Fit or the Amazefit app does not support adding custom watch faces to the Bip Lite and there is actually no way that you can push one to the watch.
Talking about third-party stuff, you guys can still use other third-party apps such as GadgetBridge or Notify & Fitness for Amazfit with the Bip.
Bip Lite lacks a quality strap
It might not seem at first glance, however, after a couple of days of usage. I felt that the strap quality on the Bip Lite is slightly inferior. It actually caused great annoyance on my wrist and it was not the case with the original Bip. But, this could be a problem with my particular unit but I would still like to point it out actually.
Bip Lite has better Battery Life
Well, battery life is the only edge Bip Lite has over the Bip. It basically carries a slightly bigger 200 mAh battery over the 190 mAh battery on the original Bip. However, the major boost in battery life is because of the striping off of the sensors. The Bip Lite promises a battery life of about 45 days on average usage and this actually holds true in my testing. With even a heavy usage, I can easily pull off the Bip Lite for about a month as well.
Well, on the other hand, the Bip used to last around 20-25 days with an outdoor activity a day and continuous heart rate monitoring when sleep.
How much you guys Save between Bip vs Bip Lite
Both Bip and Bip lite is actually amazing value for the price. Bip is actually available on Amazon for less than $80.00 in four colors, red, green, white, and black as well. The Bip Lite sells from Gearbest for $59.99 and from Amazon for just more than $60.00 with three available colors, pink, blue and black.
There is actually a $20.00 difference between the devices, and you guys are going to compromise a couple of sensors for this price saving. If the price difference is going to make a huge impact? Well, it relies on your needs and the location where you guys are.
