How to Resolve OBS Black Screen When Recording Display on Windows 10

Turn Off Compatibility Mode To Fix OBS Black Screen

OBS is no doubt a desktop app. However, desktop apps run in compatibility mode for when they can’t play nice with Windows 10. This new version of the app works well with Windows 10. Also, they don’t need to be run in compatibility mode as if older versions did.

To turn off compatibility mode for OBS. Simply right-tap the shortcut that you use to launch it. Using the context menu choose Properties. Move to the Compatibility tab and turn off the ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ option.

To Fix OBS Black Screen – Use Integrated Graphics

Integrated Graphics applies if you have an Nvidia GPU. Right-tap on an empty area on your desktop and choose Nvidia Control Panel from the context menu. However, from the left column, choose ‘Manage 3D Settings’. Then move to the Program Settings tab.

Just open the ‘Select a program to customize’ dropdown and choose OBS. However, if you can’t find OBS in the list, tap the Add button next to the dropdown and choose the app’s EXE.

Then, open the ‘Choose the preferred graphics processor for this program’ dropdown and pick ‘Integrated graphics’. Also, tap Apply.
