Apple changes free batteries of some 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar manufactured between 2016 and 2017

One of the reasons why I am a faithful user of Apple products is for their after-sales service. The company has always taken this point into account and this has not changed.

It is not uncommon to see Apple launch component replacement programs when they detect a failure on their part; something that unfortunately not all manufacturers do. On this occasion, the firm has launched a program to replace batteries of MacBook Pro 13-inch without Touch Bar manufactured between October 2016 and the same year of 2017.

If you have one of these laptops and you notice that the battery is no longer working as it was initially, it is very possible that your equipment will be accepted for a completely free battery change. In the following lines, you can find information on how to check if your equipment is suitable for this program.

How to check if your MacBook Pro is suitable for the battery replacement program

Apple has published a page within its website from which you can check if your 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar is eligible for this program. To do this you must do the following:

  1. Please click here to access the program page.
  2. Enter the serial number of your Mac in the corresponding box.
  3. Click on the Send button.

After taking these steps the web will indicate if your unit can enter this program. If yes, you will have to contact Apple to start the process. For this, you can do it from the web support section itself, move directly to an Apple Store or, in case you do not have a fence, look for an authorized technical service in your area where they can do the repair without cost.

It is important to mention that Apple will only accept computers that are in good condition in the program. If your MacBook has suffered any damage it will need to be repaired first (at an official technical service) and then it can be evaluated for free battery replacement.

What happens if I have already changed the battery?

If you have already changed the battery before the launch of this program and when checking the serial number, you see that your Mac is suitable, do not hesitate to contact Apple as well.

The company agrees to reimburse the cost of the repair so you could benefit even if you made the change on your own (provided the change was made directly at Apple or an authorized technical service).

Finally, mention that the program covers the replacement of the batteries of the affected equipment for 5 years from the date of original sale (the one indicated on the purchase invoice).

We hope not, but if you are one of those affected by this problem, will you tell us your experience with the repair in the comments?
