Code Found In iOS 13 Suggests That Apple Is Testing Its AR Glasses

A few days ago, we told you about two new patent apps. Apple presented for its alleged augmented reality headphones known as Apple glasses. One was the technology that projects images directly into the user’s eyes instead of a screen. The other patent is for the technology present in a pair of gloves that will allow users to use hand gestures to check the content on the headset screen. The AR device could go into production by the second quarter of next year, according to the famous Apple Ming-Chi Kuo analyst. Whether the headphones to be launch next year or 2021, it can be the “next big success” of the company.

While a report earlier this year claimed that Apple had stopped working on the product. This was contradicted by subsequent leaks. A report published today states that information on Apple glasses has been discovered in internal compilations of iOS 13. The next version of Apple’s mobile operating system for iPhone should be released this month. Apple headphones presumably carry a code name of T288 and the prototype mentioned in iOS 13 is known as “Garta”. The internal version of iOS 13 refers to a “STARTester” app that recreates what an Apple Glasses user would see through the headphone lens on the iPhone screen. Two different test options are available, “worn” and “held”.

Will Apple glasses require the use of a nearby iPhone to process tasks?


The report goes on to point out that a README file in iOS 13 describes a “StarBoard” system shell for AR-enabled apps that offer stereo sound. The code strings mention “views” and “scenes” of AR along with references to “StarBoard Mode”, “ARStarBoardViewController” and “ARStarBoardSceneManager”. It is unclear whether the Apple glasses will require the use of an iPhone nearby to provide the headset with the processing power needed to function. According to reports, the glasses will use the new Reality Operating System (ROS) and will be equipped with a new 5 nm chip designed by the technology giant. While the foundries owned by TSMC and Samsung are currently producing 7nm chips, 5nm chips should leave assembly lines next year; The lower the number of the process node, the greater the number of transistors that can fit inside a chip. Therefore, a 5 nm SoC will be more powerful and will consume less energy than a 7 nm component.

Some analysts, such as Gene Munster of Loup Venture, consider Apple glasses the next big news from Apple. And claim that the device will eventually be bigger than the iPhone. But as Google with Google Glass, there are some problems. These issues need to be clear out in order for the device to succeed for Apple. Google presented its “Glass Project” in April 2012. And raised the level too high thanks to a video that accompanied the announcement. The clip showed how a Google Glass user would interact with the device during the day, receiving notifications, checking the time, meeting a friend in a library (browsing the store and even inside the store), setting reminders, taking and sharing of photos and participation in a live video chat.
