How To Check Your RAM Type On Windows 10

Have you ever try to check your RAM type on Windows 10? When we talk about RAM, users think that it’s much better. However, many RAM usually means your PC will run faster. Also, the total number of RAM you have isn’t the only choice you want to look at when buying it. Also, RAM has a data transfer speed that affects its efficiency. There are two variants of transfer speed: DDR or SDR. DDR means Double Data Rate and also it has two standards i.e DDR3 and DDR4. In this article, you’ll learn how to check if your RAM type is DDR3 or DDR4.

DDR3 And DDR4 Speeds

DDR3 offers transfer or write/read speeds up to 2133 million transfers/second. However, DDR4 offers transfer or write/read speeds up to 3200.

The total speed for DDR is measured in GBs transferred per second but DDR3 can move up to 14.9GBs/second, and DDR4 can move up to 2.6GB/second.

From our perspective, we must come to know only the data transfer speed that both DDR3 and DDR4 have to offer.

Check RAM Type

Well, checking RAM type, when you know the transfer speeds you’re assumed to be looking for. Also, it is very simple and easy. Head over to Task Manager and move to the Performance tab. Choose memory from the left column, and view it at the top right. It will tell you the total amount of RAM you have and what type it is.

Make sure that all RAM isn’t created equally. So, the DDR3 chip on your PC can differ from that on another PC.  Also, its speeds depend on the particular chip that is installed. If you want to check the speed, simply view at the bottom of the Memory graph and you will then view a dedicated Speed field saying what your RAM’s speed is.

You can’t modify DDR3 into DDR4 using driver updates or by doubling your RAM. It’s quite similar that you can’t turn a 500 GB hard disk into a 1 TB hard disk using the software. Also, you can’t modify the RAM speed or its type using the software.

For many systems, DDR3 is certainly sufficient for most, if not every want. You only want more, reliable, or faster RAM like DDR4 for gaming. Or you might look for heavy multimedia renderings such as animation work or 3D modeling. If you’re searching to enhance the speed of your PC, increasing RAM might not be a good way to do it. Also, it’s good to invest in an SSD. However, an SSD can also cost less or about the same as the latest RAM also it’ll help your PC to run faster than when it was using an HDD.

CPU-Z

If the Task Manager can’t displaying you whether or not you have DDR3 or DD4. Then you can use a free app known as CPU-Z to check. Download or install and execute it. Head over to the Memory tab and the ‘Type’ field will display you if your RAM is DDR3 or DD4.
