Share WiFi from MacBook to iPhone

If you want to work, simply use a USB/data cable because the WiFi connection will be shared using the cable. A MacBook can’t connect to a Wireless network and also enable other devices to connect to its wireless network card.

On Mac

Simply open the Settings app and head over to the Sharing group of settings. On the left column, look for ‘Content Caching’ and turn it on. It takes a few amounts of time for it to begins up. Once it is turned on, choose the ‘Internet Connection’ choice on the same screen.

On iPhone

Restart your iPhone. You will have to turn it off.

  • While having an iPhone with a Home button, simply hit and hold the side button and the Slide to turn off switch will appear.
  • If you have an iPhone with no Home button, then simply hit and hold the side button, or the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the Slide to power off switch appears.
  • Rather than which iPhone model you have, if it’s running iOS 12, or earlier, head over to the Settings app and go to General. Move to the end and click Shut Down.

Now you have to enable the iPhone. Simply connect the iPhone to the Mac using the data cable. Also, it will automatically power on. While having WiFi and/or mobile data turned on, you can disable it if you want. The iPhone uses the WiFi connection from the MacBook. Also, it takes time for the iPhone to initiate using the connection but it can’t take more than 5 minutes.

You can connect extra iOS devices to the Mac if you have an available USB port. Remember the iPhone (or iPad) is unlocked and if prompted to, select to trust the Mac that the device is connected to.

The iPhone will also provide the preference to any WiFi networks that it is already connected to so if you do not like it to use the wireless network, then simply disable the Wifi.
