How To Simulate A Notch On An Android Phone

The phones will have a notch. It may not be the most attractive hardware, but it won’t disappear soon. You will reach a point where it will be difficult to find a phone without a notch. It has taken on different forms; There’s the notch that the iPhone X introduced and there’s the hole we’re seeing in some new Android phones. It has inspired some interesting apps. If you want to simulate a notch on an Android phone, it’s pretty easy to do it if you are running Android 9. If you are running an older version of Android, you can use a third-party app to do the job.

Simulate a notch

Developer options

This is a feature of the Android 9 developer options, and although many phones run Android 9, the notch doesn’t seem to fit the screen for everyone correctly.

  1. Open the Settings app and enable Developer Options. To enable it, locate your phone information and tap the build number seven times to enable it.
  2. After enabling the developer options, open it and search for a setting called “Simulate a display with a cutout”. Tap it and, in the menu that opens, select the type you want to add to the display.

The notch is a cosmetic effect and will not appear in the screenshots. It is possible that apps created for such display will detect its presence since it has been designed for this. Regarding the appearance, there is no screenshot to show you, but it is not the best fake notch that exists.

App

You can also simulate a notch on an Android device with a third-party app like XOutOf10. It’s completely free to download but has ads. If you add, it is better than the built-in function of Android 9. It also appears in the screenshots that allow us to show you how it looks, but it will ruin any screenshots you capture.

If you have a phone with minimal or no bevel, the app will add a fairly good level. Unfortunately, it also has a fake camera. This is because it mimics the notch in the iPhone X. It is not just to add a notch, but also the notch that has the iPhone X, the camera, the speaker and everything else.

There is no shortage of apps like this, so if it doesn’t work, you’ll probably find another ten. Outside of the test apps created for slotted phones, this “function” is of little use. Many people look for ways to hide it or customize it to make it better.
