How to transfer contacts from one Google ID to another on your Android phone

Using the newly launched contacts app, you can now move your contacts between various Google IDs with a single click of the screen. Come let’s get started.

Step 1:

Firstly, sign in using both the Google IDs on the same smartphone device. You can also add an account into your Android using the settings app.

Step 2:

Also, open the Google contacts app on your phone. Install it from the Play Store if you can’t have it.

Note: If the application is not installed, you can then follow the link to install the application.

Step 3:

Remember you are using the Google ID you like to move contacts from. In the Contacts app, choose the contacts that you like to move.

To choose contacts, just click and hold on the first contact. Simply click on the next ones to choose each contact. Once done choosing contacts, head over to the next step.

Step 4:

Click the menu icon in the top right of the screen. Now click the ‘Move to another account’ option.

Step 5:

Click on the Move button to move the contact to another ID. While having more than two IDs, the app will ask you to choose the ID to which you like to move contacts.

Once you allow the permissions if needed, the contacts app will begin the transfer process. Once finished, now your contacts will be available in your other account (Google ID).

How to move contacts from one Google ID to another on PC

Google enables you to export your contacts in two formats. These formats are CSV or vCard.

Step 1:

Firstly, Open Google Contacts on the web your browser.

Step 2:

Choose the contact you like to export. You can also make a label and put contacts simultaneously using that label to group them. If you like to export all your contacts then simply head over to Step 3.

Step 3:

In the left pane, move down and tap on ‘Export’.

Note: Automatically Google will choose all the contacts in storage for export if you can’t make any selections in the earlier step.

Step 4:

Choose ‘Google CSV’ as your format and tap on ‘export’.

Step 5:

Now your file will be installed to your default download location. All done…Now you’ve successfully exported your contacts into a CSV file.

Step 6:

Now move to your other Google ID that you like to import. Also, move to this link. Now sign out from your current Google ID, and again sign back in using the Google ID you like to move the contacts to.

Step 7:

You can then visit Google contacts on the web, again. Once time you visit, log in using the IF we like to move contacts to. Move down and tap the ‘Import‘ option in the left pane.

Step 8:

Now click on ‘Select file’.

Also, browse your default download location and choose the file you downloaded previously.CSV format.

Tip: If you don’t want to edit or relocate the file. You can then located in ‘downloads’ using the name ‘Google contacts.CSV’.

Step 10:

Choose ‘Import’ and all the contacts will be processed and saved in your latest Google ID.

Which method should I use, PC or phone?

Moving contacts from one Google ID to another is quite easy on the Android phone as you do not want to export and import contacts manually. Google’s Contacts app allows you to just choose the contacts and move them without any additional work.

However, using a computer (web) to do this is more reliable when you have a huge list of contacts to transfer from one Google ID to another ID. You can also use labels to group them easily. During export, simply choose that label to export contacts.
